So, how has AEGIS London embraced innovation to help deliver Underwriting Excellence?

Over the past 24 months, AEGIS London has transformed its capabilities by placing data, analysis and technology at the heart of its corporate strategy.  We established a new dedicated Data Science & Analytics function, invested in advanced analytical and AI-driven solutions, and fostered a culture of innovation across the business.  The result is an integrated ecosystem that delivers actionable insights directly to underwriters and other functions across AEGIS London, enabling smarter risk selection, enhanced portfolio management, and more informed decision-making.

Our Innovations included:

·         Developing and deploying algorithmic underwriting capabilities for Digital Trading, successfully delivering AEGIS London's first Digital-Follow deal and creating a scalable framework for data-driven risk selection.

·         Creating new Machine-Learning 'Risk Ranking' models to provide underwriters with deeper insight into portfolio performance and risk quality.

·         Developing a next-generation reporting suite of self-service analytical dashboards, using new data assets hosted in our own Enterprise Data Platform.

·         Delivering an Analytical and AI-Powered Underwriting Workbench, providing real-time portfolio visibility, enhanced underwriting oversight, and faster access to actionable management information across the organisation.

·         Building a business-wide data culture through the launch of a Data Champions network, enabling teams across underwriting, claims, finance and operations to make more informed, data-led decisions.

·         Applying advanced Data Science techniques to deliver measurable enhancements to pricing models, portfolio management and profitability across multiple business lines.

·         AI-driven data cleansing and classification, improving pricing and portfolio optimisation.

The results

Innovation has been a key enabler of AEGIS London's Underwriting Excellence and market-leading performance.  The syndicate achieved a combined ratio of 72.9% in 2025, with the Insurance Insider revealing in April 2026 that Aegis 1225 was one of two Lloyd’s syndicates that were most profitable over the past decade.

This performance is underpinned by a technology ecosystem that equips underwriters with richer insights, faster access to information, and more effective decision-support tools.  Importantly, innovation has not replaced human expertise; it has amplified it.  By automating routine activities and surfacing actionable insights, our people can focus more of their time on complex underwriting decisions, broker engagement and delivering value to clients.
